The Bug Zapper was a trap in Dungeon Keeper that was hidden as a tile of fill dirt until triggered. One second after an enemy minion walked into its radius, the trap triggered, dealing lightning damage and stunning targets within its range. The Bug Zapper targeted both ground and aerial targets. Ghosts were especially vulnerable to these traps, due to their lightning weakness. The area of effect stun was particularly useful when paired with other defences. Furthermore, the Bug Zapper, being disguised as a tile of fill dirt, could be used to make a segment of a dungeon appear cut off, sometimes making it difficult for an attacker to see how to enter an area without using the Bomb Wall spell. The Bomb Wall spell would reveal this trap, but would not deal damage to it.
To acquire access to the Bug Zapper trap, Keepers required a level 6 Workshop. The trap was upgradeable; doing so would increase its health and damage dealt. However, it did not increase the duration of the stun.

- Bug Zappers worked well when combined with Freeze Traps.
- Stun effect stacked with other Bug Zappers; for example, three Bug Zappers would stun for six seconds.
- Three Bug Zappers hitting the same target would cause it to become perma stunned. The target wasn't able to move unless one of the traps was destroyed or disabled.
- Horny was still able to attack if stunned by Bug Zappers if he was within attack range.
- Bug Zappers did extra damage to Tiny and Ghosts.
