Dene Carter was a programmer of Dungeon Keeper,[1] and is the brother of lead programmer Simon Carter.[2] He also voiced the underworld Mentor.

Dene Carter coded the user interface, and parts of the room code, Imp logic, and the engine.[3] He also programmed the creatures' shadows,[3] which was believed impossible.[4] Dene Carter joined the project in September 1995.[4] In 1996, he wrote the Dungeon Keeper Resurrection Diary, which details the development of the game during early-to-mid 1996, as the game was undergoing its major revamp. In addition to the underworld Mentor, Carter voiced the Keeper taunts, the Lord of the Land taunts, and the Keeper spell incantations.[1]

Shrieff Dene of Cosyton is possibly named after him.[5]

Carter participated in an Electronic Arts versus Ascii magazines Dungeon Keeper competition on 8 October 1997 in Ascii's Tokyo offices. There were two Keepers per team, and the team with the most creatures after 75 minutes won. Ascii won, and Carter had the fewest creatures.[6]

For Dungeon Keeper 2, he was involved with the production of creature sounds.[7]
