Dungeon Keeper Wiki

The Elven Archer is a hero unit in Dungeon Keeper 2 and Dungeon Keeper Online.

Description[]

Not much is known about the Elven Archers, save that they want to rid the world of evil beings that threaten their forest homes and usually ally with the local Lord, specialize in ranged combat and that they harbour a deep-rooted hatred with the Dark Elves; this is due to the Dark Elves abandoning the light of the Overworld in favour of the darkness of the Underworld.

Elves have deadly bows with which to harass and hurt your poor monsters. While weak individually, in groups, they can be ferocious. Use them as back-up units for your fighters, utilizing their penchant for ranged combat. They have unmatched accuracy and tremendous range.

In terms of function, they are the same as your Dark Elves, but can be a good conversion if you can afford the wage as they don't add to your Portal head count of 15. They do not hate any creatures except Dark Elves; if you wish to have both in your army you should make separate Lairs and Guard Rooms for each to avoid a riot.

The Mentor's Thoughts[]

"An Elven Archer has converted. Like his counterpart, the Dark Elf, the Elven Archer is an excellent long range support creature. Use him to take out enemies from a distance."
The Mentor, Pet Dungeon Mode (DK2)

Mercenary and Counterpart[]

Variant comparisons.

Normal Dark Elf, Elite Zenobia, Mercenary Elven Archer, normal Elven Archer.

The Mercenary Elven Archer is distinguished from the normal Elven Archer by his numerous red clothing pieces and an eyepatch. The Elven Archer has a counterpart in the form of the Dark Elf, which in turn has an Elite variant.

Tips[]

  • When using a Mercenary Portal, he is attracted by a Guard Room. Otherwise mostly encountered as an enemy Hero which you need to convert to obtain, or can be a Temple sacrifice.
  • The most prevalent meta is transforming Dark Elves into Elven Archers at a Temple. Even if weak, having an unlimited supply more than makes up for their meager performance.
  • Has the unique active possession special ability Sniper Mode.
  • Since they cannot traverse lava, they may reliably shoot over it with their bow from possible safe distance.
  • Has the unique active possession special ability, Sniper Mode.
  • After Imps, she is tied with 6 other creatures in having the lowest health. Only one of them is his counterpart.
  • Even if both are reliable but weak additions to your dungeon in small numbers and a waste in large ones, compared to his evil creature counterpart the Dark Elf, the Elven Archer is stronger at lower experience levels from 4-7 (especially when possessed) and may have occasional success damaging multiple targets strictly at short-to-medium ranges with his Grenade attack.

Bugs[]

  • May become unhappy for not having any work to do during a Call to Arms, which should definitely not happen. (This may possibly occur when locked in a room.)

Trivia[]

  • Their exact genetic connection with Dark Elves has not been revealed yet by the series.
  • There are a few instances in which the Mentor will incorrectly refer to the Elven Archer as a female.
    • He also sometimes refers to the Elven Archer's counterpart, the Dark Elf, as a male.
  • The Mercenary Elven Archer has an eyepatch, thereby putting this particular sniper in the same humorously exclusive club as normal Skeletons. Who also have one eye.
  • They are somewhat of a spiritual successors to the first game's Archer units, at least thematically. But both of their presence may indicate that the Overworld Kingdom of Harmonia may employ ranged soldiers of different races, and possibly other soldiers of same role too. Is there an Elven Knight? An Elven Wizard? Possibly a Dwarven Archer? Many questions only the future may answer. The first game also showcased Mountain Dwarves that were capable of working in a Workshop.
  • Elves were originally pretty magical beings of Germanic folklore and Norse mythology, later made more famous by 19th century Romanticism and American Christmas Elves, and 20th Century J.R.R. Tolkien novels The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings. Further spotlight arrived with Dungeons & Dragons, and after Dungeon Keeper and its sequel, came Warcraft III.
