Exploring is an activity or job some of your creatures can and may decide to do in Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2. It is an urge for some of them to reveal the fog of war at locations where your conquest hasn't taken you before. They can either be evil or originally goodly creatures.
For exploring to happen, your creatures, who are inside your dungeon, need access to segments of the level which are not yours, usually outside of your dungeon. Though, inner areas can also draw such creatures with their curiosity, thereby staying more safe.
Dungeon Keeper[]
Only the Fly explores. Exploring is the Fly's primary job, and what the Fly is useful for.
Although it may seem like the Hellhound explores, he does not; what he's doing is seeking the enemy, which is a distinct job.
Dungeon Keeper 2[]
Evil Creatures[]
Your evil creature explorers, who come from a Portal, are:
- The Firefly - A studious insect born to explore. He defaults to the task, perhaps too soon. Can do his job flying above lava and doesn't set off ground step-on/pressure traps.
- The Rogue - Your evil version of a Thief, a pseudo-stealth backstabber. Can only walk on land and water but is better at defending himself, and may even steal enemy gold. Usually he first trains himself before wanting to explore.
Converted or Mercenary Heroes[]
Your converted or Mercenary heroes, who you either convert in a Torture Chamber or receive through a Mercenary Portal respectively, are:
- The Thief - Same as the Rogue, though slightly weaker, an unexplained higher pay, and may also steal your own gold if unhappy. Though he may appear to have a better sense of fashion.
- The Fairy - A mischievous meddling mobilized magic minion militia manically mapping magnitudes midst magnified megawatt mana mayhem, maybe meandering meager medical matters. Thus, she is a flying researcher who quickly sets off to explore, spouting Lightning, and can even heal herself by Praying (only when possessed).
Tips[]
- Perhaps an occupation they are urged to do but causes them annoyance, they always seem to accidentally stray too far from food and pay for their own liking. Most of the time, it is best that you give them other jobs.
- Be careful not to lock them out of your dungeon!
Bugs[]
- They don't actually gravitate towards unexplored areas, only places which are not owned by you.
Trivia[]
- Any of these creatures may occasionally be found in a neutral state on a map, either in the retail game's levels or on fan made ones.
