Fear Attack[1] is a special ability available to Maidens in your possession in Dungeon Keeper 2. As its name implies, it enables you to cause fear in enemy creatures. However, certain creatures are immune to fear, like the Skeleton, Maidens themselves , Horny himself, it is less effective against certain creatures, like Vampire, Dark Angel, Mistress, Black Knight, Bile Demon.
Unlike other "attacks" (including ones that do not cause damage, like Vampire's Slow), when required, the possessing Keeper merely needs to press the special ability hotkey and that by itself will count as usage, thereby making this attack unique in this regard. When used, the screen performs the same spiral swirl graphic seen when using the Vampire's Hypnotise ability - ironically generating quite the opposite effect.

Affected creatures will first be surrounded by a spiky torrential swirl of transparent menacing red pair of eyes (same as the effects of the Fear Trap), then have a white effect around them.
Tips[]
- Using a Maiden as an aggroing lure on close proximity heroes might be a good idea since Fear Attack may scare away unneeded weaker enemies unworthy of conversion who would just get in the way of a safe and controlled assassination of the target - adding to the "spider's web" metaphor on a whole new level.
- Theoretically, if a player configures his or her own keybinds (and either places movement closer to special ability, or vice versa), having the special ability button as its own attack perform button, considering it is an actual attack albeit without damage, makes the Maiden easier to play to its full potential.
- If you want to preserve an enemy (probably A.I.) Keeper's specific population composition by not killing his scouts (Firefly, Rogue, Thief, Fairy) or wandering units (if a piece of your dungeon is freely accessible between two or more parts of his or hers), you can attempt to use this ability to scare them back to their Lair.
Bugs[]
- Using this might crash the game. Or picking the target up after being affected, in My Pet Dungeon.
- Depending on certain versions of the game, the special ability HUD icon in possession might not appear or be present.
- The ability likewise (should be) less effective against any creature who became drunk after drinking in a Casino less than 120 seconds ago, but isn't. Since anti-fear buffs seemingly never really reached completion during development.
Trivia[]
- Considerably ineffective. Unfortunately, in games where a Maiden would be available, the probability of meeting enemies in possession who just happen to be effectively vulnerable to the Fear (special ability) is quite low. And considering its low range makes you first aggro then cause fear, it isn't quite beginner-friendly. Also, if you can press a key for a special ability that doesn't do damage, you might as well press another one that does. The largest thing that may hold this ability back is it requiring possession and player input.
- It can be cast on hostiles inside a Combat Pit, a Prison cell yard, or housed on a Torture appliance, including your own torture appliance, but to no effect aside from visual.
- According to some long time fan memory recalls, the icon for the special ability might have been the same as the aforementioned Vampire's Slow creature spell.
- Disclaimer. The icon presented in the upper right template, and this wiki, is not representative of the game and doesn't appear in it, it was merely added as a fandom wiki page design element for feature presentation parity.
