Dungeon Keeper Wiki

The Goblin is a recruitable creature in Dungeon Keeper 2 and Dungeon Keeper Online.

Description[]

"Goblins represent the staple of any thriving dungeon. Goblins excel at nothing, but are eager and willing to serve, although they may well turn their noses up at research or manufacturing work.

In combat, their effectiveness really depends on their numbers; they simply don’t have the strength or skills to be considered effective independent warriors but as a pack they can overcome their innate fear of danger.

Possibly due to their size and lack of exceptional skills or maybe just because they’re ugly, Goblins have a slight tendency to be picked on by other creatures. They themselves despise Dwarves."

— Dungeon Keeper 2 Manual

The Goblin is the first true creature the Keeper gets after the player installs the game. They do their job as much as expected. They do have value in combat, with their short swords they chip away enemy health with nasty stings. They should always be used in groups to make sure they do not flee.

The Mentor's Thoughts[]

"Look well. A goblin has entered your domain. On his own he is a cowardly beast, but in a horde becomes a useful fighting force."
The Mentor, Campaign Mode (DK2)
"The goblin is a stalwart dungeon minion. It is quick to recover from stunning and while weak individually, in hordes they can be a ferocious pack."
The Mentor, Pet Dungeon Mode (DK2)

Elite[]

Variant comparison.

Normal Goblin foreground left, Elite Grubb background right.

The Elite Goblin, Grubb, has dirtier skin, a chest plate armorpiece, proper pants, vambraces, a darker helmet, things that look like more teeth than the normal creature, and a gold colored sword. Grubb benefits:

  • Significantly higher melee damage.
  • +25% more health.
  • 33% faster training.
  • Almost twice as hard to scare and almost twice as as much threat that he generates.
  • +50% higher pay.
  • +50% higher Possession mana cost.

Tips[]

  • They have quite good mood tolerance. You may place their Lair far away from key locations, or their bed in the back of the Lair from the entrance.

Bugs[]

  • For some reason, sometimes they may flee even with more than enough way stronger allies by their side.

Trivia[]

  • The Goblin first appears in Smilesville, being the only available creature. Goblins have no room requirements to be attracted but lack any special abilities and can be easily scared by tougher foes. Goblins become harder to scare when attacking with other creatures.
  • Goblins are actually not much weaker than most creatures. They have more health than Warlocks, Dark Elves, and Trolls, and the same amount of health as Salamanders, Fairies, and Skeletons. They have no spells, but have a weak melee attack that is fast. Their upkeep cost is also a lot cheaper than most creatures.
  • Sacrificing two in the Temple does not result in gaining a different creature.
  • They are tied with the second-lowest wages (above zero) with such creatures as the Troll, Salamander, and Giant.
  • Useless to own in any serious matches, but one may be a darling to have around in a peaceful collector's mindset on chill levels. Two together with the Elite.
  • The Dungeon Keeper Demo level refers to Trolls as Goblins.
  • Goblins are a European mythological folklore creature type, who do wicked mischief around a house or search for hidden treasures. Later brought into larger appreciation by J.R.R. Tolkien in his Hobbit & Lord of the Rings series, in which he called smaller more primitive Mountain Orcs by the interchangeable name 'Goblins'. Eventually, Dungeons & Dragons capitalized on them more by turning them into small armed brigands.
