Dungeon Keeper Wiki

The Maiden (also known as the Maiden of the Nest) is a recruitable creature in Dungeon Keeper 2, added into the game with the 1.7 patch.

Description[]

Her upper half looks like a comely human female, while her lower half is that of an oversized spider. Half insectoid/arachnid - half human? Fully scary.

Even being a proper creature, she has no Elite variant or hero counterpart.

Note: - As stated above there is no Elite variant that is available. However, there are Maidens in the game which possess the Ring around the Health / Level Bubble that can be found in an opposing keeper's roster. I captured one such and was attempting to convert her. She has no name, no stats and is the same art as the others. But she does possess the above mentioned structure around her symbol.{{Expand article}}

Tips[]

  • The Mentor will not announce her arrival in your dungeon, but her distinctive sneeze and laugh will alert you to her appearance.
  • Relatively trouble-free.
  • Her most prominent feat she brings to the table is her sturdy build; she is a tank.

Bugs[]

  • Her panel icon shows up after heroes, not with the evil creatures. So don't be alarmed when you first can't find her.
  • Her Fear Attack, which needs possession, may crash the game. Also, fear isn't properly implemented into the game. But Fear Attack does work.

Trivia[]

  • The Maiden is only available in version 1.71 and is absent in the Campaign Mode. (A fan patch manages to remedy this.)
  • The Maiden has no Elite counterpart. (Yet...)
  • She is one of the four evil researchers (Warlock, Vampire, Dark Angel, Maiden).
  • The Maiden of the Nest seems to be inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons monster called the "Drider". Like the Maiden, the Drider is a part humanoid/part arachnid creature with a penchant for evil deeds.
  • 'Maiden' is a polysemous word, and it is unclear which meaning is the intended one. The most common meaning (given that the creature is a female) is 'virgin', and this is how it is interpreted in the French translation (in which the Maiden is called the Vierge), but this does not make much sense in a Dungeon Keeper setting. 'Maiden' is also a synonym of 'maid',[1] which is more likely to be the intended meaning. However, it is also possible that it is a double entendre.
  • Newspaper article.

    Maiden 1998 development mention.

The Maiden was originally a cut creature; it was reintroduced in the 1.7 patch, not something made specifically for it.[2][3] It was mentioned as being in development simultaneous with the Casino, as early as May 1998.
